Into the wild wild East
Sächsische Schweiz, Germany
We headed out to the Sächsische Schweiz for a quick overnighter along part of the iconic Forststeig Elbsandstein, a looping trail that winds through one of southeastern Germany’s most striking landscapes. With its towering sandstone formations stretching across the German and Czech border, the area delivered everything we hoped for. Clear skies, warm light, and long late summer days gave us the time and space to really take it in.
At one point we followed the border path itself, stepping into the Czech side for a proper supper before settling into a bivouac site, a great ecuse to keep our equipment and supplies light and simple. The trip became a perfect test of pack load outs, distance, and pacing, balanced with moments of pure enjoyment. A fitting way to close out the summer and indulge in ideation on what journey’s could come next.
