Higher Learnings

After an inspiring day at ISPO learning from the outdoor industry and those who came before us, we headed south to Garmisch Partenkirchen with a clear goal in mind. Camp the night before in freezing temperatures, wake early, and push ourselves toward a 1200m elevation gain on Kramerspitz. It felt like the right kind of challenge. Equal parts excitement, nerves, and curiosity about what the mountain would give us.

The mountain answered with snow. A lot of it. Just shy of the summit, we made the call to turn back. Lacking the right expertise for the conditions, retreat became the smartest move. It was humbling, but valuable. We practiced safer traversing, learned to read the terrain more honestly, and were reminded that progress is not always measured in summits reached. Sometimes it is knowing when to stop, stay safe, and come back better prepared.
